African Fish Eagle

The voice of Africa's waterways, this striking eagle has a snowy-white head, chest and tail, a chestnut body and black wings. Its ringing, yelping call echoes across rivers and dams. It perches over water and swoops down to snatch fish from the surface with its big curved talons, throwing its head back to cry out.

How to identify it

Unmistakable white head, chest and tail against a chestnut-and-black body, almost always near water.

The voice of Africa - a ringing 'weee-ah, hyo-hyo' yelp, head thrown right back.

Beside rivers, dams and large pools throughout the park, especially the Sabie, Olifants and Luvuvhu rivers.
