African Wildcat

Vaalboskat · Felis lybica

The wild ancestor of every pet cat, the African wildcat looks much like a tabby but with longer legs, faint body stripes, and warm reddish-brown ears. It hunts mice, birds, and insects at night and is shy of people. Spotting a pure wildcat is special, because near towns they can interbreed with domestic cats and lose their truly wild bloodline.
