Black-winged Stilt

Rooipootelsie · Himantopus himantopus

A graceful, slender wader with crisp black-and-white plumage, a thin straight bill and absurdly long pink-red legs. It strides through shallow water, picking insects and tiny creatures from the surface and mud. Noisy and bold near its nest, it yaps loudly and circles low over any intruder.
