Candelabra Tree
Naboom · Euphorbia ingens
One of Kruger's biggest succulents, forming a distinctive many-armed silhouette against rocky hills. It has no true leaves, doing its photosynthesis in the green stems.

A large, leafless succulent tree with a stout trunk and a rounded crown of upward-curving, ridged green branches shaped like a candelabra. Usually stands out on rocky ridges and koppies.
Flowers & fruit
Autumn to winter (roughly Apr-Jul), with small yellow-green flower clusters along the ridges
Browsed by
Largely avoided because of the toxic latex; black rhino and kudu occasionally browse it, and it may be eaten more in droughts, but it is generally toxic to most animals.
Where to see it in Kruger
On rocky ridges, outcrops and koppies, including the Lebombo hills and granite outcrops.
Did you know
Its milky latex is extremely toxic; a single drop can blister skin and it can cause temporary blindness if it gets in the eyes, so never break a branch.
