A tiny, glittering sunbird with a shorter bill than its relatives, the male metallic green above and yellow below with a thin purple breast band; the female is green above and all yellow below. It feeds on insects, spiders and nectar, working quickly through the foliage of riverine forest and thicket, often in pairs or small parties.

How to identify it

Tiny, with a metallic green head and back, bright yellow belly, and a short bill; male has a narrow purple chest band.

Listen for its call

High sharp "tswee" twitters as it flits through the leaves.

Where to see it in Kruger

Resident in riverine forest and dense woodland, especially along the southern rivers, feeding among leaves and flowers.
