Coqui Francolin

Swempie · Peliperdix coqui

The smallest francolin in the region, a shy ground bird of grassy woodland that prefers to crouch and run rather than fly. The male's bright tawny head is distinctive. It feeds on seeds, shoots and insects, and announces itself with a cheerful, repeated call that gives it its names.
