Green-winged Pytilia

Gewone Melba · Pytilia melba

A strikingly colourful little finch, also called the Melba Finch, with green wings, a finely barred grey-and-white belly, an orange wash and a red rump. The male adds a bright red face and throat. Rather shy, it feeds on seeds and termites on the ground in thornveld, dashing into thick cover when alarmed. It hosts the parasitic Long-tailed Paradise Whydah.
