Kori Bustard

Gompou · Ardeotis kori

One of the heaviest flying birds in the world, this stately grey-and-brown giant strides slowly across open plains. Males puff out a huge frilly throat during courtship and boom out a deep call. Though it can fly, it prefers to walk, picking up insects, seeds, lizards and small creatures as it goes.
