Long-billed Crombec
Bosveldstompstert · Sylvietta rufescens
An odd, almost tailless little warbler that looks like a feathered thumb, grey-brown above and warm buff below with a long, slightly down-curved bill. It creeps and clambers along branches and probes bark and leaves for insects, often joining mixed feeding flocks. Despite its plain looks the stumpy shape and active branch-hugging habits make it easy to recognise.

Looks tailless and stumpy, grey above and buff below, with a long down-curved bill; creeps along branches.
Listen for its call
Loud ringing "trree-tree-tree", surprisingly big for a tail-less scrap.
Where to see it in Kruger
Resident in woodland and thornveld park-wide, working along branches and through foliage for insects, often in mixed parties.
Did you know
Its tail is so short it looks as if someone forgot to give the little bird a tail at all.
