Roan Antelope

Bastergemsbok · Hippotragus equinus

The roan is one of Kruger's largest and rarest antelope, second in size only to the eland. It has a sandy grey-brown coat, a striking black-and-white face mask and long, tufted, donkey-like ears. Both sexes carry shorter backward-curving horns. Roan need large areas of tall grassland and are only found in a few special corners of the park.
