Saddle-billed Stork

Saalbekooievaar · Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis

This tall, striking stork is one of Kruger's famous 'Big Six' birds, and seeing one is a real treat. It wades through shallow water on long legs, hunting fish and frogs with a huge red-and-black bill topped by a bright yellow 'saddle'. Standing nearly as tall as a child, it is one of Africa's most beautiful and elegant waterbirds.
