Serrated Hinged Terrapin
Gekartelde Skarnierwaterskilpad · Pelusios sinuatus
A water-loving turtle with a dark, oval shell whose back edge is jagged like a saw, giving it its name. It has a hinge at the front of its lower shell that closes like a trapdoor to protect its head. It eats snails, insects and water plants, and often basks on logs. It belongs to the side-necked group, folding its head sideways under its shell.
