One of the smallest antelope in the park, a rich russet-brown with faint white throat marks and short ringed horns on the male. It freezes in dense thicket and slips away with a soft bark when disturbed. Easily confused with the more common steenbok or grysbok.

How to identify it

Tiny and dark russet with a constantly twitching tail; far smaller and shyer than a steenbok, hugging dense shade.

Where to see it in Kruger

Restricted to the far-north sandveld thickets around Punda Maria and Pafuri.
