Village Weaver
Bontrugwewer · Ploceus cucullatus
A large, noisy colonial weaver, the breeding male golden-yellow with a black head, red eye and a boldly mottled back. Males weave many hanging nests in a single tree and display energetically to attract females, who reject poorly built nests. Colonies near water and camps are busy and raucous. Outside breeding, both sexes become dull yellowish.
