Western Barn Owl
Nonnetjie-uil · Tyto alba
A pale, long-legged owl with an unmistakable white heart-shaped face and dark eyes. It hunts rodents over open ground on near-silent wings, locating prey by sound alone in total darkness. Often roosting in hollow trees, culverts or buildings, it gives an eerie, drawn-out screech.
