White-tailed Mongoose

Witstertmuishond · Ichneumia albicauda

The largest mongoose in Africa, this leggy, shaggy, grey-brown animal is easy to recognise by its big bushy white tail. It comes out at night to hunt alone, snuffling for beetles, termites, and other insects, with a special fondness for dung beetles. Its long black legs and pale tail make it look quite different from the small, day-active mongooses people usually see.
