Brown-throated Martin

Afrikaanse Oewerswael · Riparia paludicola

A small, plain brown martin without the clean breast-band of the Sand Martin, fluttering low over rivers and dams. Colonies excavate nesting tunnels into sandy banks. It feeds on tiny insects close to the water surface and, unlike its Palearctic relatives, is a year-round resident.
