Lesser Striped Swallow

A richly coloured swallow with a rufous cap and rump and heavily streaked underparts. It builds a remarkable enclosed mud nest with a long entrance tunnel under bridges and eaves. Mostly a summer breeding visitor to Kruger, with only a few lingering, it largely departs for winter.

How to identify it

Bright rufous rump and cap with heavily dark-streaked white underparts; builds a mud retort nest.

A nasal, squeaky chatter — "zeh-zeh-zeeer".
