Mosque Swallow

The largest African swallow, similar to the Red-breasted but bulkier and with a pale throat and cheeks. In Kruger it is a bird of the north, nesting in holes in big trees, especially baobabs, and under bridges. Unlike most large swallows here it is resident and stays through winter.

How to identify it

Big pale swallow with a rufous rump and underparts but a whitish throat and pale cheeks.

Tall riverine and baobab woodland of the northern park.
