Red-crested Korhaan

Boskorhaan · Lophotis ruficrista

A small ground-dwelling bustard of dry bushveld, more often heard than seen as it slips between the shrubs. The male performs a spectacular display, rocketing skyward then plummeting down as if falling dead. The hidden red crest gives the bird its name but is rarely visible.
