Reed Cormorant

Rietduiker · Microcarbo africanus

A small, slender black waterbird with a long tail and a short hooked bill, the Reed Cormorant dives underwater to chase fish. Like the darter, it must perch with its wings spread out to dry afterwards, because its feathers are not waterproof. It often sits on dead branches and reeds, and its eyes glow a striking red up close.
