Woolly-necked Stork

A smart-looking dark stork with a fluffy white 'woolly' neck that gives it its name. It has a glossy black body with a greenish or purplish sheen, a black cap, and a white belly. It feeds on frogs, insects, fish and small reptiles, often walking quietly along the edges of pools and wet grassland.

How to identify it

Look for the fuzzy white neck and black cap above a dark, glossy body.

Where to see it in Kruger

Seen along rivers and pans across Kruger, often near the Sabie and Crocodile Rivers.
