The largest African sparrowhawk, a striking black-and-white raptor that hunts birds up to the size of doves and francolins. It nests in tall trees, often exotic eucalypts near rivers, and ambushes prey with fast, low flight, then a sudden powerful strike from cover.

Large black-and-white hawk, much bigger than other sparrowhawks; black above with a white throat and chest, or a dark form.
