Ovambo Sparrowhawk

A slender grey woodland hawk that preys almost entirely on small birds, taken in fast aerial chases. It favours stands of tall trees and is told from similar species by its barred throat, reddish legs and the pale spots usually visible down the shaft of its folded tail.

How to identify it

Grey sparrowhawk with finely barred underparts, orange-red legs and usually white spots in the centre of the tail.

Tall woodland, especially mature trees and riverine edges, where it perches and launches surprise attacks.
